We’ve had a chat with Director and development whiz, Nev!
When did you start here?
I joined ten years ago in 2012 after using the solution in a previous organisation as an early adopter! Having used EntrySign for several years, and seeing the product mature during that time I knew it was a product that had huge potential and numerous benefits for customers!
What is your role here?
My role here is predominantly heading up product development. I lead two fantastic in-house teams covering both hardware and software development with staff who are specialists in their respective fields. I also oversee our support team who are committed to ensuring our customers receive the very best technical help and service when required.
What three words would you use to describe your role?
Technical, Development, Support.
What did you do before working here?
I’ve always been fascinated with computers and technology, learning electronics and basic programming on early 8-bit computers, such as the Sinclair Spectrum from a very early age, advancing to Amigas, Ataris and Acorns through the ‘90s and on to Windows and newer technologies including the Internet as we know it today. I’ve worked in a variety of mostly IT/technology-related companies and organisations over the years and it is through those roles that I developed a passion for scripting and subsequently coding – making computers do the work for me, rather than me working for them!

What are you working on now, and what’s coming up?
A lot of our current development is focussed on new features and functionality and much of that is utilising the cloud. We’re also developing new hardware as well. We’re not short of ideas and one of the most difficult things is prioritising which features and ideas to develop first. That’s where interaction with our customers, partners and understanding the market’s needs comes in. EntrySign, as we know it today, is a fusion of our original concepts, fantastic ideas from our internal staff, as well as feedback and requests from our customers and partners. There are lots of exciting things in the pipeline, so you’re going to have watch this space!
What is your favourite thing about working here?
We’re definitely a company that makes things happen. We can take ideas and make them a reality very quickly and that certainly keeps things interesting. I enjoy learning new technologies and exploring how they can be utilised in our products. I’m privileged to work with great people and after the last couple of years it’s great to see people back in the office again – I think the social aspects associated with work are something which we perhaps all took for granted previously!
And what’s your favourite EntrySign feature?
That’s a really tough question as there are so many great features, but I think my favourite element of the EntrySign system would have to be the new cloud platform we’re developing as it underpins most of the new features we’ll be launching in the months ahead. If I had to pick an existing feature though, it would probably be pre-booking visitors as this lies at the very heart of the system and is one of the most widely used and useful features.
What has been your biggest achievement with EntrySign?
We often refer to EntrySign as a visitor management system, but the development work we’ve done over the years has created a very versatile and configurable platform which can be used for signing in (and out) much more than just visitors – staff, contractors, pupils/students, residents and more. EntrySign is now an established, mature and refined solution that has been selected by many prestigious customers throughout the world. Knowing that the product we’ve created is being used daily by so many organisations is a great achievement for the company as a whole.

How do you wind down after work?
I have a fantastic family including two children so enjoy spending most of my spare time with them, but I also enjoy motorcycling, DIY and generally anything technical, practical or aviation-related!
Finally, what is your least favourite TV show?
Anything with the words Strictly, Dancing or both!
We aim to provide the very best products and service for our customers. Please get in touch if you have any questions, comments, or would like to know more about our product range.
